Consider This Blessing

Psalm 41:1-2 Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble. The Lord will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies.

The Bible tells us that when we consider the poor, God will deliver, preserve, keep, protect, and bless us. The act of considering the poor has a blessing built into it. It’s a promise from God that when we show kindness to those in need, He will take care of us in return.

No matter who you are or what you have, there’s often a feeling of lack, a desire for more. But if we stop and look around, we’ll see many people who have far less than we do. It doesn’t matter your situation; there’s always someone in greater need.

When we focus on those less fortunate, we begin to feel overwhelmed with gratitude. You can’t help but thank the Lord for His goodness when you see how much He has blessed you.

The word “consider” means to ponder carefully or think deeply about. But there’s more to it. It also means to relieve. If we have something in our hand to bless those who don’t have, we should be a blessing.

We aren’t necessarily commanded to give people money. However, we are commanded to provide food, water, and shelter.

Matthew 25:35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in.

Maybe you think it’s too much or the problem is too big. But God says to relieve the poor and He will pay you back. It’s not just about giving money; it’s about meeting needs and showing compassion.

Proverbs 19:17 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.

In helping those in need, we are not only fulfilling God’s commandments but also positioning ourselves to receive His blessings. Let’s consider and relieve the poor, and trust that God will honor His promise to take care of us in return.
