“Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.” John 8:58
Have you ever thought about who Jesus really is? In the Bible, Jesus says something amazing: “Before Abraham was, I am.”
This reminds us of when God spoke to Moses from the burning bush. God said His name is “I AM” (Exodus 3:14). By saying “I am,” Jesus was showing that He is the same God who spoke to Moses.
Think about the sun up in the sky. It’s a big, bright star that gives us light and warmth. Now, consider the sunlight that reaches us here on Earth. Can you separate the sun from its light? You can’t have sunlight without the sun, and you can’t imagine the sun without its light. They are connected; they are one and the same in essence. The light shows us the sun’s presence even if we can’t look directly at it.
In a similar way, Jesus is like the light that comes from God the Father. He is God reaching out to us so we can know Him. The Bible says, “In him was life; and the life was the light of men” (John 1:4). Just as sunlight reveals the sun and allows us to see the world around us, Jesus reveals who God is and helps us understand Him.
When Jesus said, “I and my Father are one” (John 10:30), He was telling us that He and God are not two separate people but one.
Just like the sun and its light can’t be separated, Jesus and the Father are united. Jesus is God in human form, showing us God’s nature in a way we can understand.
Let’s look at three things that prove Jesus is God:
1. He Forgave Sins
When Jesus was on earth, He forgave people’s sins. In Mark 2:5, Jesus said to a man, “Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.” The religious leaders were upset. They said, “Who can forgive sins but God only?” (Mark 2:7). They knew that only God can forgive sins. By forgiving sins, Jesus showed that He is God.
2. He Was Without Sin
We all make mistakes, but Jesus never sinned. The Bible says, “Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth” (1 Peter 2:22). Only God is perfect and without sin. Jesus lived a perfect life, showing that He is God in the flesh.
3. He Received Worship
The Bible tells us only God should be worshiped. When people tried to worship angels or other humans, they were told not to. But Jesus accepted worship. In Matthew 14:33, after Jesus walked on water, it says, “Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.” By accepting worship, Jesus showed that He is God in the flesh.
Jesus is not just a good teacher or a prophet. He is God in the flesh. He came to show us the way to fellowship with the Creator and how we can go to heaven. Just like the sun and its light are one, Jesus and the Father are one. He forgives sins, lived a sinless life, and deserves our worship.
So, when we think about Jesus, let’s remember who He really is. He is the great “I AM,” our God and Savior.
