Abraham’s Journey: A Picture of Our JourneyIntro

When you open your Bible and start reading about Abraham, it’s a living picture of what it looks like to walk by faith. Abraham’s life is like a mirror. His struggles are our struggles. His victories are our victories. And most of all, his journey points us to Jesus Christ, who is the One who helps us every step of the way.

The Bible says in Genesis 12:1-2,
“Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing.”

God called Abraham out of everything he knew. He had to leave behind his home, his family, and his old life. That’s a big step. And it’s the same first step every Christian takes when they decide to follow Christ. We have to leave behind our old life and trust that God has something better ahead.

The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:17,
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

When we get saved, we start a brand new journey. Just like Abraham, we don’t always know exactly where we’re going. We can’t see every step ahead. But we know the One who’s leading us, and that’s what matters.

Abraham’s life wasn’t without his faults either. He had moments of fear, doubt, and even failure. In Genesis 12:11-13, Abraham lied because he was scared.

Later, in Genesis 16, he got ahead of God’s plan by trying to fix things his own way. That sounds a lot like us, doesn’t it? We trust God, but sometimes we get scared. Sometimes we try to take matters into our own hands. But God didn’t give up on Abraham. And He doesn’t give up on us either.

One of the greatest things about Abraham’s journey is that it always pointed to Jesus Christ. When Abraham left his home, it pictured Jesus leaving Heaven to come rescue us. When Abraham offered Isaac on the altar, it pointed to Jesus giving His life for us. Every step Abraham took was not just about him — it was showing us a bigger picture—a picture of God’s love, God’s plan, and God’s Son.

The Bible says in John 8:56,
“Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.”

Jesus Himself said that Abraham looked forward to Him. Abraham’s whole life was about seeing by faith the day when Christ would come.

And just like Abraham, we are pilgrims and strangers here.

Hebrews 11:8-10 says,
“By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country…For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.”

We’re on the same path. This world is not our home. We are looking for that city. And along the way, we face battles, fears, mistakes, victories, and blessings — just like Abraham did.

In this series, we’re going to walk through Abraham’s journey. Step by step. And with each step, we’ll see our own Christian journey. We’ll also see the life of Jesus Christ, our perfect Savior, who walks every step with us. If Abraham’s life teaches us anything, it’s this: Our faith isn’t without struggles. It’s about trusting a perfect God.
