Rescuing Lot — Fighting for OthersPart 5 of 11

Even though Abraham and Lot went their separate ways, Abraham didn’t stop caring about him.

Later, when Lot got into trouble, Abraham dropped everything to help.

Genesis 14:14-16 says,
“And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan. And he divided himself against them, he and his servants, by night, and smote them… and he brought back all the goods, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people.”

Lot had chosen to live near Sodom — a wicked city. That choice put him in a bad place, and he ended up captured during a war. But even though Lot had picked the wrong direction, Abraham still loved him enough to fight for him.

That’s what Christians are called to do — to fight for others. Not with swords like Abraham, but with love, truth, and prayer.

The Bible says in Ephesians 6:12,
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world…”

We’re in a spiritual fight. People around us are being taken captive by sin — trapped in addictions, lies, fear, and shame. Our job isn’t to ignore them or judge them. It’s to step up and fight for them — on our knees in prayer, with the truth of God’s Word, and with hearts full of love.

That’s exactly what Jesus did for us.

Luke 19:10 says,
“For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

He didn’t wait for us to fix ourselves. He came to rescue us. He went to battle for our souls on the cross. He gave everything so we could be set free.

Rescuing others takes courage. Abraham didn’t sit back and say, “Well, that’s what Lot gets.” He took action. He risked everything to save Lot. That’s the kind of faith God wants in us — not just faith to believe, but faith to fight for someone else.

There are people in your life who need someone to fight for them. They might be far from God, making poor decisions, or just lost and confused. Don’t give up on them. Love them. Pray for them. Step in when others would walk away. Be the one who brings them back.
