Leaving Home — Trusting the Call of God Part 1 of 11

When God first spoke to Abraham, He didn’t hand him a map or tell him exactly where he was going. All He said was, “Go.”

Genesis 12:1-4 says,

“Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee. And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him…”

That took some serious trust. Abraham left behind everything he knew — his house, his family, his country, even the gods his people used to worship. He didn’t have all the answers. He didn’t even know where he was going. But he knew Who he was following, and that was enough.

When a person gets saved, they face the same kind of decision. They have to leave their old life behind. They might not know what the future looks like, but they trust the One calling them.

The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:17,
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

When Jesus saves us, He changes us. It’s like packing up and moving to a brand new place.

We don’t belong to the old life anymore. We have a new life now, and a new path.

But let’s be honest — leaving isn’t always easy. Abraham probably had a lot of questions. “Where will I live?” “How will I survive?” “What if I fail?” Sometimes we ask the same things when God calls us to trust Him. We want all the details before we take the first step. But God doesn’t always work like that. He just says, “Follow me,” and expects us to move.

The best part is, Abraham’s journey points us right to Jesus.

In John 6:38, Jesus said,
“For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.”

Jesus left His home in Heaven. He left the glory and perfection of eternity to step into this broken world for us. He trusted the Father’s will completely. Abraham’s leaving was just a small picture of what Jesus would one day do in a far greater way.

It is by faith that we receive the salvation of our souls through Jesus Christ. It’s also by faith that we choose to live for Him every day. And just like Abraham, you won’t know everything about the path forward. He just knew God was good. He knew God’s promises were worth leaving everything behind for. And because he trusted, God used his life to bless the whole world.

God may not ask you to pack up and move across the world, but He does ask you to leave behind the old ways — the sin, the comfort, the fear — and trust Him to lead you into something better. The question is, are you ready to say yes, even when you don’t have all the answers?
