Waiting on God’s Promise — Trusting His Timing Part 6 of 11

Sometimes the hardest part of faith isn’t starting the journey — it’s waiting along the way.

Abraham knew that feeling. God had promised him a child, but years kept going by with no baby in sight.
Genesis 15:2-6 says,
“And Abram said, Lord GOD, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless… And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir. And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars… So shall thy seed be. And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.”

Abraham had a real, honest moment with God. He said, “Lord, I’m trying to believe… but it’s hard. I’m still childless.”

But God didn’t rebuke him. He took him outside and told him to look at the stars — a reminder that God’s promises are bigger than what we can see.

We all have things we’re waiting on: answers to prayer, doors to open, people to change, healing, provision, direction. It can feel like God is taking too long. But just like Abraham, we have to learn to trust God’s timing — even when it doesn’t match ours.

Hebrews 6:12 says,
“That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.”

It takes both faith and patience. Anyone can believe for a little while, but the real test comes in the waiting.

And while we wait, we’re not alone. Jesus knows what it’s like to wait.

2 Corinthians 1:20 says,
“For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.”

Jesus is the proof that God keeps His word. Every promise finds its “yes” in Him. He didn’t rush the plan of salvation. He waited, followed the Father’s will, and at the right time, He fulfilled every word.

Sometimes we think waiting means nothing is happening, but that’s not true. In the waiting, God is working — in us and around us. He’s growing our faith, strengthening our trust, and setting up something bigger than we imagined.

So if you’re in a season of waiting right now, don’t give up. Don’t try to force things. Just hold on to the promises of God. Trust the God who hung the stars — the same God who told Abraham, “I will.”
