A World Without God

Imagine what the world would look like if God stepped back and just let people run things their own way?

Psalm 53 gives us a clear picture.

“The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.” (Psalm 53:1)

It doesn’t say he shouted it from a rooftop. He said it in his heart. Quiet. Private. But still deadly. That little lie, tucked deep inside the heart, changes everything.

Once people believe there’s no God, they start acting like it too.

“They are corrupt, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.” (Psalm 53:1b)

This Psalm isn’t talking about one person or one place. It’s speaking about a whole world turning its back on the Lord. God looks down from heaven and doesn’t find a single person seeking Him (v. 2). Everyone’s doing what they want, living how they feel, with no fear of judgment.

Sound familiar?

Paul quoted this exact Psalm in Romans 3 to show that the whole world is guilty before God.

“There is none righteous, no, not one: there is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.” (Romans 3:10-11)

It’s not that people don’t believe in something. They just don’t believe in Him.

And when God is removed, fear fills the gap.

Psalm 53:5 says:

“There were they in great fear, where no fear was…”

That’s exactly what we’re seeing today—people scared, anxious, confused, and empty, even when nothing’s chasing them. Why? Because without God, even good days feel dark.

Paul saw it coming. In 2 Thessalonians 2, he warned of a time when the world would fall so far from truth that it would believe a lie:

“And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie.” (2 Thessalonians 2:11)

This is a world preparing itself for the Antichrist—someone who won’t just ignore God, but will try to replace Him.

That’s where this path leads.

But here’s the hope…

Psalm 53 ends with a prayer:

“Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion!” (Psalm 53:6)

That’s talking about Jesus—our true and only hope. And one day, He will come again. Revelation 19 tells us He’ll ride in as King of Kings. When that day comes, every knee will bow. Every fool will know.

Until then, this world may try to live without God. But we don’t have to.

Let’s live like He’s real—because He is. And let’s help others see that before it’s too late.
