When God Has a Work He Provides: Wisdom, Heart, and Provision

Have you ever faced a task so big, you wondered how it could ever be accomplished? Whether it’s a goal in your personal life, a project for your church, or an ambition for your job, sometimes the path forward seems filled with obstacles.

Yet, in the story of Bezaleel, Aholiab, and the construction of the sanctuary in Exodus 36, we find a powerful reminder: when God ordains a work, He equips His people with everything they need to complete it.

When God has a work, he provides wisdom & understanding

Exodus 36:1 Then wrought Bezaleel and Aholiab, and every wise hearted man, in whom the Lord put wisdom and understanding to know how to work all manner of work for the service of the sanctuary, according to all that the Lord had commanded.

In Exodus 36:1, we learn that God gave Bezaleel, Aholiab, and every wise-hearted man the wisdom and understanding to perform all manners of work needed for the sanctuary. This wasn’t just about skill; it was a divine impartation of knowledge for a specific purpose. In our lives, when faced with daunting tasks from God, we can trust God to provide the wisdom and understanding necessary for the work He calls us to.

When God has a work, he stirs the heart

“And Moses called Bezaleel and Aholiab, and every wise hearted man, in whose heart the Lord had put wisdom, even every one whose heart stirred him up to come unto the work to do it:” Exodus 36:2

Verse 2 of Exodus 36 shows us something extraordinary about the volunteers for this project: their hearts were stirred. God doesn’t just call the capable; He capacitates those He calls. When God has a work, He stirs the hearts of His people to move, to act, and to contribute.

This stirring is not just about motivation; it’s a divine push towards fulfilling God’s purpose. It encourages us to listen closely to where God is directing our hearts, showing us where to serve and invest our energies.

When God has a work, he provides more than enough provision

“And they spake unto Moses, saying, The people bring much more than enough for the service of the work, which the Lord commanded to make. [6] And Moses gave commandment, and they caused it to be proclaimed throughout the camp, saying, Let neither man nor woman make any more work for the offering of the sanctuary. So the people were restrained from bringing.” Exodus 36:5-6

By the time we reach verses 5-6, an incredible problem arises—not a lack of resources, but an abundance. The people brought so much that Moses had to ask them to stop! When God ordains a work, He provides more than enough.

This principle of provision extends beyond material resources; it includes time, talent, and treasure. It’s a reminder to us that when we’re engaged in God’s work, we can trust Him to supply all our needs and even exceed our expectations.

The story of the sanctuary’s construction in Exodus 36 is a reminder of how God works through His people. When God has a work, He doesn’t just leave us to our own devices; He equips us with wisdom, stirs our hearts to action, and provides more than we could imagine.

As we undertake the ministry God has set before us, let’s do so with the confidence that comes from knowing He is with us every step of the way, providing all we need to accomplish His will.
