Life is full of distractions, and it’s easy to forget just how important it is to praise the Lord. But the Bible makes it clear—our time to praise God here on earth is limited. Once we take our last breath, that opportunity is gone.
The Reality of Death
Psalm 115:17 says, “The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence.” Psalm 6:5 backs this up: “For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?”
Once we die, we can’t lift our voices in praise anymore from earth. Our mouths are silent, and the chance to declare His goodness is over. That’s why we need to take advantage of the time we have now.
But for those who are saved, death isn’t the end. It’s just the beginning of eternal life in Heaven, where praise never stops. Revelation 19:5 says, “And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great.” Here on earth, we have a short window to praise Him, but in Heaven, we’ll praise Him forever.
The Living Dead
It’s not just those in the grave who don’t praise God—there are plenty of people walking around today who are spiritually dead. Ephesians 2:1 says, “And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins.” That means before salvation, we were spiritually lifeless. People who don’t know Christ might be physically alive, but they’re blind to His goodness. They don’t see His blessings, His mercy, or His love working in their lives.
But we do. We’ve been made alive in Christ, and because of that, we have the privilege—and responsibility—to praise Him. Psalm 115:18 says, “But we will bless the LORD from this time forth and for evermore. Praise the LORD.”
Praise While You Can
As long as we have breath, we should use it to glorify God. The lost don’t see a reason to praise Him, and the dead can’t—but we can. So let’s not waste a single moment. God has given us life, both here and in eternity. Let’s make the most of it and praise Him while we still can.
