In Isaiah chapter 6, the prophet gets a glimpse of God that changes his life. King Uzziah had just died, and the throne on earth might’ve looked empty, but heaven’s throne was still filled. God let Isaiah see His glory. What happened next gives us a picture of what needs to happen in our life.
Isaiah didn’t walk away the same. And if we’ll look carefully, we won’t either.
Here’s what we need:
1. We Need to See What Isaiah Saw
“I saw also the LORD sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.” (Isaiah 6:1)
Isaiah didn’t see God in a manger, or on a cross, or even in a tomb. He saw Him on a throne. High. Lifted up. All authority. All holiness.
Too many people try to bring God down to their level. But Isaiah saw God as He truly is. Pure. King of all.
Revelation 4:2, “And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.”
We’ll never get right with God until we see Him rightly. When you see God on His throne, you stop playing games and start learning to fear the Lord.
2. We Need to Sense What Isaiah Sensed
“Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips.” (Isaiah 6:5)
The closer Isaiah got to God, the worse he felt about himself. He wasn’t puffed up, he was broken down.
He didn’t blame others. He didn’t point fingers. He looked inward and saw the filth.
Luke 5:8, “When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.”
When you really meet God, you don’t strut. You bow. And you know your own mouth needs cleansing.
3. We Need to Say What Isaiah Said
“Also I heard the voice of the LORD, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.” (Isaiah 6:8)
Once Isaiah got clean, he got called. And he didn’t argue. He didn’t make excuses. He just said yes.
God didn’t force him. He asked. And Isaiah volunteered.
Acts 9:6, “And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?”
That’s what happens when God gets ahold of you. You stop asking what you want from God and start asking what God wants from you.
When Isaiah saw God, he changed forever. He saw right, he felt right, and he spoke right.
Maybe that’s what we need too.
Let’s get back to seeing Him high and lifted up.
Then everything else starts falling into place.
