WHY ABORTION IS ALWAYS A SIN: MARY’S SURRENDER VS. MODERN CONVENIENCE

In the world we live in, we talk a lot about “rights.”

We like to be in control of our outcomes. And when it comes to the womb, the world has adopted a mindset that is the complete opposite of God.

At the center of the abortion debate is a message that says: “You must die so I can live.”

It is a mindset that prioritizes convenience, comfort, and personal preference over a human life. But when we look at the birth of Jesus Christ, we see the exact opposite. He died so we can live.

The modern cry is “My body, my choice.” It frames the child as property and the mother as the absolute owner. But Mary didn’t see herself as an owner; she saw herself as a steward.

Luke 1:38, “And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word.”

Mary didn’t frame the Child as her property. She moved the authority upward to God, not inward to herself. Abortion seeks control over outcomes, but Mary trusted God with outcomes she couldn’t manage or predict.

Abortion is often defended as a “private decision,” and for many, it is chosen to avoid social consequences or “shame.” From the outside perspective, Mary’s situation was the definition of scandalous. She was an unwed teenager in a small town. She could have been judged, rejected, or even put to death.

Yet, Mary accepted the shame and the misunderstanding of the public rather than destroy the Life within her. She surrendered her comfort to protect Life, while abortion destroys life to protect comfort.

The Child: Burden or Blessing?

Modern language often frames an unplanned pregnancy as a “problem” to be solved or a “burden” to be lifted. People weigh the timing, the money, and their readiness. They say, “I can’t afford this,” or “The timing is wrong.”

But remember where Christ was born. He wasn’t born into a palace with a huge savings account waiting for Him. He was born in a manger alongside animals.

Luke 1:42, “…Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.”

Life is not defined by circumstances; it is defined by God’s calling. Christ was valued by God before He could ever speak or act. Abortion evaluates a baby based on “viability” or “impact,” but God values a baby simply because they exist and are created in His image.

Abortion is ultimately power exercised by the strong against the smallest and weakest among us. It silences a life before it can ever draw a breath. The birth of Christ is the total opposite: it is God Himself entering into that very weakness to redeem the world.

By choosing abortion, people try to remove God from the decision that happens in the womb. But in the story of Christ, God placed Himself inside the womb.

Abortion offers an “escape” from responsibility, but it leaves a trail of destruction in its wake.

Mary carried her responsibility fully.

It is never “okay” to end a life. Life is a sacred gift entrusted to us by the Creator. When we stop viewing children as “problems” and start viewing them as “blessings,” we align ourselves with the heart of God.
