In a humble room, Jesus and His disciples gathered for what would be their last supper together. The air was thick with camaraderie and unspoken tension. Jesus, carrying the weight of what was to come, shared the bread with His beloved followers.
As they ate, Jesus revealed a startling truth, “One of you will betray me.” The words hung in the air, heavy with sorrow. The disciples looked at each other, confusion and denial in their eyes. Among them, Judas sat quietly, his heart wrestling with the impending act of betrayal.
Jesus then turned to Peter, His faithful disciple, predicting that Peter would deny Him three times before the rooster crowed. Peter, in disbelief, couldn’t fathom the idea, but Jesus knew the trials that awaited them all.
After the supper, they moved to the Garden of Gethsemane. Here, the depth of Jesus’ humanity was laid bare. He prayed fervently, grappling with the imminent pain and suffering. “O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.”
These moments remind us of the human struggles Jesus, who was God in the flesh, faced and His ultimate submission to our Father’s will for the greater good of our salvation.
As we reflect on this night, may we find strength in Jesus’ example and surrender our own struggles to God’s will, trusting in His greater plan for our lives.
