In Judges 6:12, the Angel of the LORD calls Gideon a “mighty man of valor.” It’s interesting to note this title given to Gideon at a time when he was hiding in a winepress, threshing wheat to keep it from the Midianites.
Gideon was poor, and least of his father’s house. He had nothing about him that said he was a valiant man.
Gideon was fearful and felt inadequate, yet the Lord wasn’t looking at who he was at that moment, but what he would become.
God sees our potential! And I’m thankful for that. Gideon, who once hid in fear, became a mighty leader and judge of Israel. He led a small army of 300 men to victory against the vast Midianite army, showing incredible faith and courage. Gideon’s transformation from a fearful man to a courageous leader is a powerful reminder that God can use anyone for His purpose, regardless of their starting point.
I am thankful that God saw who I would become for Him before being saved. Not that I have arrived, but I’ve come a long way spiritually and have grown more than I ever thought I could, thanks to the Lord.
Remember that God sees who you will become for Him, but you must be willing to grow. Gideon’s story shows us that even in our moments of doubt and fear, God’s vision for our lives is far greater than we can imagine. We just need to trust Him and be willing to step out in faith.
