Matthew 9:2, 22, and 27 take us on a journey of faith that isn’t just a thought or belief in our hearts—it’s a faith that takes action and touches our Savior. These verses remind us that faith isn’t just invisible. It’s something Jesus can see, feel, and hear.
In Matthew 9:2, we find the story of a man sick of the palsy. His friends brought him to Jesus, carrying him on a bed. The Bible says, “And Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.” Their faith wasn’t just a thought in their minds; it was visible in their actions. They believed so strongly that they carried their friend to Jesus, knowing He had the power to heal.
Then, in verse 22, we see the woman with an issue of blood. She had suffered for twelve long years. She believed that if she could just touch the hem of Jesus’ garment, she might be made whole. The Bible says, “But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole.” Her faith reached out, and Jesus felt it.
Finally, in verse 27, we see two blind men following Jesus, crying out, “Thou Son of David, have mercy on us.” They couldn’t see Jesus, but their faith gave them a voice that Jesus heard. They believed He could give them sight, and their cries moved Him to respond and heal them.
So often, we come to crossroads in our own lives that test our faith. Maybe it’s a loved one in need, and we’re moved to pray with urgency. Maybe it’s an illness or fear that drives us to our knees, reaching out to Christ like the woman in verse 22. Or perhaps we feel lost and don’t know the next step, so we cry out to Him for guidance, like the blind men did.
Whatever the situation, our faith should start in our hearts but not stay there. Hebrews 11:6 tells us that God “is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Faith that pleases God is faith that acts—it moves our feet to take steps, our hands to reach out, and our mouths to call on Him.
Take a moment to think on your own faith today. Is it a faith that Jesus can see in your actions? Is it a faith He can feel in your reach? Is it a faith He can hear in your prayers and cries for help? Let your faith be alive and active, trusting in the One who is always ready to meet your need.
