I still remember the day I realized just how much Jesus loves me and what He did for me.
If you’re not sure where you would go when your life here is over, the verses below can help you understand how you can know God for yourself.
How You Can Know You’re Going to Heaven
1. Realize You Are a Sinner
The first thing to know is that we are all sinners. None of us are good enough to go to Heaven on our own.
- Romans 3:23 — “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”
We all mess up. We have broken God’s laws. That’s what sin is.
2. Understand There Is a Penalty for Sin
Because of our sin, we are separated from God. Sin has a payment, and it’s death — not just dying physically, but being separated from God forever in Hell.
- Romans 6:23 — “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
3. Believe That Jesus Paid the Price
The good news is that Jesus loves you so much that He died for your sins. He took your place. He was punished for you.
- Romans 5:8 — “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Jesus didn’t stay dead either. He rose from the grave, proving He is God and that He can save you.
4. Trust Jesus Alone to Save You
You can’t save yourself by being good or doing good things. You must put your faith in Jesus alone to save you.
- John 14:6 — “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
- Ephesians 2:8-9 — “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
Salvation is a gift, not something you earn.
5. Call on Jesus and Receive Him
God promises that if you call on Him, believing in your heart, He will save you.
- Romans 10:9 — “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
- Romans 10:13 — “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
You can pray and ask Jesus to save you right now. It’s not about the words you say, but believing in your heart.
6. Know You Have Everlasting Life
If you have trusted Jesus, you don’t have to wonder or hope you’re saved — you can know it for sure.
- 1 John 5:13 — “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life…”
A Simple Prayer (If You Need Help)
“Dear Jesus, I know I’m a sinner. I believe You died for me and rose again. I’m asking You right now to forgive me of my sin and save me. I’m trusting You alone to take me to Heaven. Thank You for saving me. Amen.”
(Just remember, it’s not the prayer that saves — it’s trusting Jesus that saves.)
