Sometimes our minds feel like a mess and our lives seem like they’re going in circles. We try to fix it, plan better, or work harder—but nothing really changes.
The problem is, we’re carrying things that God never told us to carry. Instead, He told us to roll them over to Him. That’s exactly what Proverbs 16:3 and Psalm 37:5 are teaching. These two verses aren’t just similar—they’re a perfect match. They show us how to have peace in our minds and direction in our lives.
Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.”
Psalm 37:5 says, “Commit thy way unto the LORD; faith also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.”
In both verses, the word “commit” means “to roll.” It paints the picture of someone rolling a heavy burden off their back and placing it in the Lord’s hands.
In Proverbs, we’re told to roll our “works” onto Him—this means our tasks, our responsibilities, and everything we’re trying to get done. In Psalms, we’re told to roll our “way” onto Him—our journey, our path, and our life’s direction.
This kind of rolling over doesn’t happen by accident. It happens by faith. Psalm 37:5 says, “faith also in him.” That’s the bridge. If you don’t have faith in the Lord, you won’t roll anything over to Him. You’ll keep carrying it yourself, and that’s why so many people stay stuck.
Faith means believing He’s able, and trusting that He will do right. We can’t see the end of the road, but we know Who walks with us. Hebrews 11:6 reminds us, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
The best part is what happens after the rolling and the faith. In Proverbs, it says your thoughts shall be established—your mind will be settled, your direction will be clear, and your thinking will be straight. That’s mental peace. In Psalms, it says He shall bring it to pass—He will take care of the outcome. That’s life direction. One verse gives you peace in your mind. The other gives you movement in your path.
God doesn’t just want to help you feel better—He wants to help you think better and walk better. He wants your thoughts to be firm and your steps to be steady. But it all starts with rolling the weight off your shoulders and putting it into His hands. Psalm 55:22 says, “Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.”
So if your mind is cloudy or your path feels shaky, don’t just keep pushing through. Roll it over. Believe He cares. And watch what He does with both your thoughts and your future.
