“Wherefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against Amaziah, and he sent unto him a prophet, which said unto him, Why hast thou sought after the gods of the people, which could not deliver their own people out of thine hand?” — 2 Chronicles 25:15
Amaziah won the fight. God gave him the victory. But right after, he picked up the false gods of the people he just beat and started worshipping them.
That’s what made God angry. And it should.
It’s like a man going back to the same sin God just pulled him out of. It reminds me of what the Bible says in Proverbs 26:11, “As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.”
God helps people break free from addiction, then they bow to pride.
God fixes a marriage, then they forget the Lord.
God delivers someone from a dead-end life, then they chase the same world that was killing them.
It doesn’t make sense. And yet, we do it.
Let’s learn from Amaziah. When God gives you the win, don’t go picking up what He knocked down. Put it away and keep your eyes on Him.
Worship the One who gave the victory, not the junk He helped you defeat.
