“For Mordecai the Jew was next unto king Ahasuerus, and great among the Jews, and accepted of the multitude of his brethren, seeking the wealth of his people, and speaking peace to all his seed.” – Esther 10:3
Mordecai’s life is wrapped up in one verse at the close of Esther. He went from being a man in sackcloth at the king’s gate to being the second in command in Persia. That’s a reminder that God knows how to raise His people up at the right time.
But notice why he was remembered: not for power or riches, but for his heart. He sought the good of his people. He was accepted by his brethren. He spoke peace to the generations after him. That’s the kind of leader worth following.
We need leaders today who aren’t chasing their own name, but who look out for the wealth and peace of others. And more than Mordecai, we have Christ, who sits at the right hand of the Father, seeking our good and speaking peace into our lives.
